2005 Chevy Suburban has hydro boost brakes, and steers hard. Has no power steering to the left, but steers fine to the right.
What can be the problem?

Most common problem is a bad steering gear box but it you have EVO variable effort steering this can also cause differences in steering effort. It can be the sensor in the steering column or the valve on back of power steering pump. does stepping on brake pedal when trying to steer make any different in steering effort.

If applying brakes has no effect then the pressure is most likely ok but the spool valve in the gear box is sticking causing the steering assist to only work in 1 direction. There is a quit involved diagnostic procedure with a special test gauge that check for both pressure and flow but dealers are about the only place that will have the equipment to do these test.
