Question

1998 camry brake light/shifter lock fuse

Sent to Car Experts September 22, 2006 7:20 a.m.

Hi, I have a 1998 camry with california emissions. I blew the fuse that controls the brake lights and shift lever lock etc. My fuse panel is located on the drivers side under the hood. My question is what fuse needs to be changed. the manuel stated that its fuse 37. They are not listed by number as far as I can see. is it a regular fuse or one of the box type fuses?. Also how can Identify which fuse it is? thank you. Bryan

REPLIED Check Mark

Hello Bryan

Under normal conditions you can look at the fuse and see which one blew by observation. If you have a test light, check for current on both sides of the fuse, if current comes in and doesn't travel through the fuse and out the other end that would be the blown fuse. I suggest you check with the ignition switch on, not all fuses are will have current in and out with the key in the off position.

Good Luck!

Dan

Hi Dan, thanks for your reply however i checked all the fuses and none are blown. Let me start from the beginning, I left the lights on and it killed the battery. a guy jumpped the car and reversed the cables. they were on for a couple seconds. all the tail and brake lights dont work nor does the inst. panel (gauges) or the shift lever lock. the car starts with a boost and i bypassed the shift lever lock with the button. the car dives but dont stay on unless it is moving constantly. I was wondering if it could be one of the big fuses? relays? if so which might it be. i think the whole circut may be blown or the alt was damaged by the reversed cable polarity. I really appreciate your help. thanks Bryan
