Question

car won't start

Sent to Car Experts September 21, 2006 10:56 p.m.

Hello I am desperately searching for help on input to fix my car. I have a 1993 Buick lesabre. I was having problems with the crank pulley it was very noisy. I replaced with a new pulley from the local automotive very carefully as those fingers are so sensitive. I then put back together and went to start and car fires but does not start. I have since then checked everything that I can and am lost. I have replaced all these parts new crank sensor, cam sensor, computer, electronic thing under coils, checked fuel pressure good spark good has resistor and is good on ignition switch. when it fires it is only for split second. I can spray gas in intake and car will run. Have fuel pressure and when I check injector light flashes for only initial turn of key then nothing. Do you have any suggestions? The only thing I didn't try is the chip in computer. any help would be great.

Optional Information:
1993 Buick Lesabre 3.8

Already Tried:
crank pulley, crank sensor, cam sensor, computer, electronic under coils, fuel, ignition

If your problem is the injecter pulse dropping out, then you need to determine if it's the power side of ther pulse side thsat's dropping out. You could have a short in the power supply side of a bad computer if it's the pulse side.

You can use a 12 volt test light to test the power side and if you confirm the power side is OK, then you uses a noid light to check for pulse signal. It gets constant 12V on one side and the computer pulses the ground to operate the injecter but never use a test light on the computer side, just a low impedence noid light. (shown below)

You can probe both sides with a grounded test light, just don't power the light to test for ground. If you look at the colors, one color will be on every injecter and that is the power wire.

I tested the wires today and found that the black wire is hot and the pinkish wire is dead. I tested with noid light and it only flashes when you initally turn on key. Should the noid light be pulseing as the engine tuns over or just the inital??? I am so confused any help will greatly help. I also tried new prom in computer today no luck. Have new throttle postion ordered to try as I have been told that could be cause if a open circut?? is their anything to that??
Thanks,
Scott

OK, it appears to be the pulse dropping out. That is the computer's job to do that. You should check all your fuses and any grounds you can find but it seems to be pointing to a bad computer.

checked all fuses and grounds replaced computer when problem first happened to see if that was it because I feel that is what it acted like but still nothing. Was a aftermarket should I buy another to try????? Also replaced prom in computer thought maybe that was bad but still nothing?? How do I go about checking crank sensor wire for continutity and injector wires and also throttle postion wires is their a chance of something being bad with wires? I am so confused why this just after new crank dampner. Did they have any problems with them or crank sensors that you know of???? any help would be great.

Car` won't run with a bad crank sensor. Your problem isolated to the computer or it's imputs.

Your going to need a dealer scan tool at this point. They can access a lot more info than you can. If the securtity system is causing something here, the info will be available to them along with all the other important data.
