It is possible for the clatch slave cylinder or the clutch master cylinder to go bad. If they do you will get poor clutch performance. The first thing to check would be for any leaks. Does your fluid reservoir ever get low on fluid? Then I would check for pressure. There should be a bleeder screw on the slave cylinder. You will need someone to push in the clutch pedal and hold it while you crack open the bleeder screw. Make sure you get good fluid pressure out of it and make sure to close it before the pedal is let back up. Let me know what you find.

Okay. then what you can do is crack the line open instead just to see if you are getting pressure from it.

Reply to BOBBY's Post: This slave has a hard plastic line that runs to it and is not screwed on from looking at a new one it has a roll pin that pushes through that catches the edge of the flange of the tube,if I push that out all the fluid will drain.

Sorry about the mis direction. I forgot that this was one o Dodges selaed system units. If the slave cylinder was bad in any way it would more than likely be leaking from it's front seal. Now the cluch master cylinder could be internally bad causing a problem with pressure and clutch application. You could usually feel it in the way that the pedal would be very soft and not return very well. With these types of clutch systems, being that it is basically sealed and self adjusting, the most likely problem to cause hard shifting is a worn clutch. How many miles are on the current clutch?

Reply to BOBBY's Post: I`m not sure,I bought it used but the truck has 120,000 on it,there is no clutch slippage at all I use this truck to plow snow and it has no problem,if this is a sealed system does everything have to be replaced at once. I went to Autozone and they sold be a slave cyl. separatly.

It is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the system as a unit. A worn clutch doesn't necessarily need to slip but can cause hard shifting. Can you remove the slave cylinder from the trans? If so see how the rod looks the pushes on the fork.

Reply to BOBBY's Post: I can try that,I have noticed its in the mornings when I first start it, it grinds shifting gears more so than after it is driven a bit.I`ve checked the trans fluid level and it is fine, this problem didn`t happen gradually,I got in one morning, went to shift and it started grinding slightly between each shift.
