ZX2 Cross Member or Transmission Guard ?
Sent to Car Experts September 09 01:14 PM

Is the cross member bolted to the bottom of a 2000 ZX2 crossing just behind the oil pan load bearing or is it a protector only. I hit a tire in the road and it became bent. Only four large bolts connect it to the subframe but they are large (1/2") ond would like to replace it myself rather than take it to a dealer.
Thanks.............

The crossmember that goes from left to right is a protector/stablizer. The one that runs from front to back has the trans mounts sitting on it. You can drop the 4 bolts and replace it if not unbend it.

Reply to Gene's Post: Thank you for your response. I intend to "Accept" when the time comes however I have some additional info... I can remove the bolts on the driver side but the passenger side had the "stabilizer" partially riped from it as it was peeled down to nearly a 90 deg angle. The forward bolt no longer has the stabilizer under it while the aft bolt does. I was able to back out the driver side bolts with some effort due to rust and able to begin backing out the passenger side forward bolt but was prevented from completing the task due to the bent stabilizer...My ?? What is the down side if the car is driven without the stabilizer for a few days? Would it be considered unsafe or would it only be considered a very good idea to replace it prior to driving the car a short time, say 50 to 100 miles? Part price = $105....

It should be fine, It may makes some noises driving going over bumps, but the sooner you replace it the better.

I just want to be clear...
If I remove the stabilizer can I still drive the car befor I need to pu the new one on. I need the car to go get the part but with about 2 inches of ground clearance right now, I can't see myself driving it as is.

Thanks again....
