Slow transmission engagement when going into reverse when engine is

Sent to Car Experts September 09 01:24 AM

2002 Ford Ranger XLT.
After truck has been warmed up and @ 550 RPM: When shifting into Reverse, it takes about 3 to 4 seconds to engage. The engagement is soft, not firm as it should be. Fluid level is OK. Throttle cable may not be ajusted (as per owners manual).
Shifting during normal acceleration is fine but when using "kick-down" to pass, transmission downshifts into first gear every time and therefore engine "races". When trying to kick-down, nothing happens untill the accelerator is near the floorboard, then the engine races and the transmission shifts into first gear.

Thanks,

Lawrence
I don't know if there are any external ajustments

has anyone pulled codes on the vehicle??? i know there is a tsb concerning engagement problems on these transmissions that involve replacing the epc solenoid with a revised one and replacing the seperator gasket for the valve body which on early vehicles was too thin and would split and push out from the valve body....there are no external adjustments....i would also use a scan tool/voltmeter to confirm transmission range sensor function......
