ABS System
Sent to Car Experts September 06 04:48 PM

I have a 2000 GMC 4X4 crew cab 3500 Dual rear wheels. Occasionally The ABS light comes on while driving. I can, sometimes make it go off by stopping, placing it in park. Stopping and starting the engine. Is this a dangerous condition? The truck doesn't get used a lot. Could there be some corrosion somewhere? I live in Georgia and it has been very hot and humid lately, could that contribute to the problem? Thanks, Les

Chevy has had a lot of problems with the bpmv(brake pulse modulator valve)It may be that or it may be a wheel speed sensor. The system will have to be scanned to determine what fault is causing the problem. It is not dangerous to drive, you will have your regular brakes as always, but will not have any abs capability's.If it is a bpmv assembly it isnot a do it your self repair as the system will need to be reprogrammed. If it is the wheel speed sensor this is something that you can repair, but requires the removeal of the affected whell and brakes to remove the wheel speed sensor

Reply to GENE's Post: Would this be an intermittent problem? Or would it go out altogether. The problem comes and goes. Thanks Les
