Question

Car that is being offered to me,

Sent to Car Experts August 27, 2006 5:46 p.m.

A Mercedes Benz 1993 300TE (3.2L 217hp inline 6cyl.), the ASR light comes on once in a while (few times a week maybe?) After that, it goes into "limp home mode" and forces me to press on the accelerator more to go to the same speed. I can drive the car like that for a while and then later turn off the engine off and then on. The issue will clear itself after that, what do you think is the possible issue or problem?

Also, when left parked for a while, the battery can be drained to the point that it will not start, the battery needs to be recharged. Why do you think a larger currrent is being drawn when the motor is turned off?

I hope you will be able to answer the above issues and look forward to your response.
Thank you in advance fro your assistance.

Len.

Hi

First of all, ASR is acceleration skid control (traction control) and the light is telling you that there is a problem and you need to get a code read done, possibly a faulty wheel sensor or the like.

Secondly, you either have a faulty alternator or something which you can't see, such as the boot light for instance, is permanently on and draining the battery.

Can you tip the rear seats forward and see if the light is on with the boot shut?

Otherwise, grab a volt meter and get back to me!

Cheers

Geordie
