Sent to Car Experts August 27, 2006 8:53 a.m.

I have a 99 chev lumina,it'sgot a problem with the fuel pump elctrical circuit.it'll run fine for a day or two then you loose power to the fuel pump.i'vereplaced the fuel relay at least three times. usually this will get it back on the road, but only temporairly. I'vebeen told that the oil press. switch can also cause the fuel pump relay to drop out????? I'm lost!

Optional Information:

No, it won't cause it to drop out. It's actually a secondary power source for the pump so it somewhat indicates the problem would be at the pump itself.

GM had a lot of problems with the plug connecters at the pump itself causing a poor connection.

This engine can run without either a fuel pump relay of an oil pressure sender. It would take a simultanious failure of both to interupt the current flow from a running engine.

i disagree with Hammer's answer looking at the wiring diagram the only way the fuel pump can be energized is thru the fuel pump relay

Your right, after checking the schematic in this particular year, the oil pressure switch is not involved in the circuit at all in this one but it is on some other years close.

That still eliminates your theory of the preessure switch interfering with the fuel pump and the advice remains the same.

I just told you the relay is the only power source on this one but the plug at the pump is likely still your problem.
