Ignition Key Lock Replacement
Sent to Car Experts August 25 02:42 PM

I have a 1997 Subaru Impreza with a faulty ignition lock cylinder. The key will go in fine, and turn the vehicle on w/o a problem, but it will not go back into the lock position and the key will not come out. If I jiggle and mess with it for a while I can get it out, but it is too much of a hassle. I have tried heavily lubricating the lock to free up whatever may be blocking the tumblers, but to no avail. I will be getting a new Ignition Key Lock Assembly Subaru part # 57420AC010. I have disassembled the steering column to get an idea of what I need to do to replace the lock, but it is not very obvious. Could you give me some help? I am quite mechanically inclined, but I know there is some trick to removing the old lock that I am missing.
Thanks!
Joe
