Question

2002 Dodge Ram Heater Core

Sent to Car Experts August 24, 2006 10:02 p.m.

Have a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with a blown heater core. Overheating and leaking into the cab. Dealer diagnosed a plugged radiator about a month ago and replaced it. That worked fine until yesterday, when overheating resumed. From cool and full radiator, I can't get 20 miles without overheating.   I took the heater core out of the loop and everything works fine. I am assuming the core is trashed due to the leaking and that a flush would do no good. I have removed all but the top dash panel and air bag. Still doesn't look like easy acess to the core. I've changed a core before, but it was on a much older vehicle. Is this a project for a fairly skilled do-it-yourselfer? Where can step by step details be found?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

The entire dash has to come out and the entire HVAC case has to be removed and dissassembled.

You will also need a recovery machine to recover and recharge the A/C system.
