my 2001 sunfire sputters and surges ...

my 2001 sunfire seems like it's not getting full spark. It sputters and surges. I changed plugs and change what was apparently a bad coil with no changes to the performance. the check engine light is on and the traction control "trac off" light is on. It did this for a week and then ran fine for about a week and I thought maybe I "the car" had bad gas but now it's doing it again. HELP!

Already Tried:
changed plugs. checked wires. changed what was thought to be a bad coil.
