Question

Dodge Radio Died

Sent to Car Experts August 21, 2006 2:07 p.m.

Not sure if you can assist me or not, but I'll give it a shot.
I have a 2001 Dodge full size van with the factory CD/Cassette combo.
I plugged in an OBD yesterday and the radio went off.
The whole unit is dead. There is no clock or anything. The fuse for the radio is fine.
The 3 lights on the equalizer blink for a split second when you turn the key
I figure the radio fried somehow, but don't want to buy a replacement only to find it's not the radio but something in the system. Any help is appreciated.

Optional Information:
2001 Dodge VAN 5.2

Already Tried:
fuses

REPLIED Check Mark

Hello, you will need to use a test light and check some wires at the grey connector.

Images available only to Customers.

#6 RED and White

#7 VIOLET Should both have power with the ignition turned on.

If you have power to both these wires than your problem is inside the radio.

Sorry to ask a stupid follow up question, but how do I use the tester? Do I put 1 on the gray and the other on the colored wires? Please advise.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Thats not stupid, To use a test light or volt meter one side has to be hooked up to a good ground source, Most bare metal on the car, or the negative battery terminal. While you probe the wire connector with the key on. If the test light lights up or voltmeter reads 12 or more volts than you have a good power supply. If you need anything else let me know.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

The purple wire gets its power from fuse# 14. If the fuse is fine then there is a break in the wire and will need to be traced down .

Just wanted to say YOU THE MAN to Brian W.
I submitted a bonus for you Brian.
I had only checked fuse #1.
Put in a new fuse 14 and I'm back in business.
Thanks. I hope if I have any other issues, I get you as my advisor.
