I just bought a 1991 Jaguatr XJ6 with 88,000 miles on it, it sat 4 year with the occasional drive around the block. I have had the spark plugs and wires changed, fuel filter, belts, thermostat, valve cover seals and oil changed. It runs pretty good for aboua a qaurter mile then it starts to stutter badly, stepping on the gas does nothing it fights to get the rpm's up, leaving the gas pedal in the same place it eventually stutters all the way down to a crawl and the engine dies. THE VCC, onboard computer says fuse 1 and 3 is bad but I do not think this is related to the problem. Any help ? Thanks so much, God Bless.

REPLIED Check Mark

If it has the original fuel in it, this is a problem. The fuel could have lost some volitility. If this is the case the fuel will have to be completely drained, and then re-filled.

After the engine dies, will it immediatly restart?

It will start after dying but barely idle and takes forever to rev up higher, flooring it barely gets it up to 5 miles an hour, and then it starts to backfire every 30 seconds or so, the computer said error fuel once but then nothing besides fuse 1 and 3. It was on E when I purchased it and the guy I bought it from mentioned it had this problem to a lesser degree during the negotiation. I put about 2 gallons premium fuel today in the car and the fuel filter was replaced afterwards. It acts like it is barely getting gas or more like it is backed up, like a potato in the tail pipe. First couple hundred yards, it drives fairly decent, then a studder or two and then the rpm's drop even though my foot is in the same place on the pedal and then crawling and dead.
