Question

Car Window off track

Sent to Car Experts August 20, 2006 12:54 a.m.

I have a 2003 Honda Odyssey that made a loud "clunk" sound as I attempted to use the automatic window controls on the front passenger window. Now the window won't go up or down! Is this something I can fix myself, and how would I go about doing that?

Optional Information:
2003 Honda Odyssey V6

Nothing so far!

The window regulator just broke. Sorry but it's going to need a new regulator. If you think you can do it I can post the instructions from the factory manual. It's a pretty common failure and nothing you can do now to get that window up except replacement of the regulator.

Is this a part that I can only get from a Honda dealer? We're leaving early Monday morning for a vacation, and I know that our dealership isn't going to be able to get it in for a while. How difficult is it to fix on my own?

If this is something that I really shouldn't do myself, then is there something I can do to get the window into the closed position and stay there until the part can be fixed?

Yes it's a dealer item only. It's not hard to fix you could do it. You have to remove the door panel then pull back the seal and remove two bolts. Then pull the glass out of the window track. Then you remove four more bolts and remove the regulator. Reverse the above for installation. I can post the factory manual but it's big. Let me know.

Okay - I tried to remove the door panel and didn't have much luck, so I guess I'll have to try my luck at the dealer tomorrow; hopefully someone will be kind and get me fixed up so we can still go on our vacation. Thanks!!

Do you need that info? I can post it here how to remove it all from the manual.

No, I think I'm going to leave well enough alone; I'm concerned that I'll end up with an even bigger problem if I attempt it on my own. I do appreciate the offer, though!
