I'm replacing brake lines on my '96 Chev. K1500
Sent to Car Experts August 18 02:25 PM

I'm replacing brake lines on my '96 Chev. K1500 and I'm wondering the purpose of the series of coils in each line near the proportioning block, and between the master cylinder and valve. Are these coils necessary, or can I run the lines as straight to the wheel cylinders?

The coils are there equalize the volume of brake fluid. They do need to be in there.A trick that i use is to splice into the lines below the coils.Use flare nuts and flare the lines.Do not use compression fittings and nuts

Reply to GENE's Post: Each line has the identical no. of turns (2?) so I can't understand how this helps in equalization, but I will accept as such and follow your advice. I thought possibly it had something to do with vibration, since so much line was open with no support. Customer (name blocked for privacy).

If you splice into the lines below the coils,it does not matter. But they are there for volume,it may help with vibration but i was taught it is for volume. They can be diffecult to replace, thats why i said to splice into them below the coils.Good luck with this repair,i did this same repair this week and my voice is sore from cussing,LOL
