Oops! Mineral oil in brake fluid
Sent to Car Experts August 18 01:32 PM

I goofed big time! Accidently put about 4-5 oz. mineral oil into my brake master cylinder. Please, don't ask how. I knew right away I should have removed it, but life went on for about 150-200 miles. Last night the pedal went to the floor. The 2000 Dodge 1500 has ABS brakes and is now parked until I can afford replacement parts. I will undoubtedly have to replace the master cylinder, but want to keep it from getting any further, unless it already has cycled. I figure master cyl. would be first failure. Ques: 1) Is there anything I can pump through the lines to remove the mineral oil, like an alcohol based cleaner? 2) What about disconnecting lines and draining before getting to calipers...? 3) How can I protect the system from any further damage until I raise money for parts? 4) where can I find rebuild parts (kits, seals, probably all rubbers) for replacement parts)? and most importantly, 5) What would you do if you had only $200., no income, but mechanics tools, internet, and a lot of time and determination? Thanks for your suggestions, River
