Question

Mechanical part of ignition swx/steering

Sent to Car Experts August 12, 2006 11:36 a.m.

On a 1985 V65 Sabre 1100 ignition switch why won't the steering lock peg actuate (move out) when the key is pushed in but refuses to rotate? Could it be the worn key? It worked in the bike but now that I have it out in my hand it no longer works. The peg is not frozen because it moves a few .000 against a spring when I push on it. I have pumped it full of WD 40 to no avail. The key rotates between 'On/Off' ok but thats it ! I took it out in search of an electrical problem that was not in the switch after all but hate to put it back this way vs $103 for a new one????

Optional Information:
1985 Honda Sabre V65

ACCEPTED Check Mark

The key being worn can and will cause this problem. A good locksmith, can cut you a new key, that will allow your steering lock peg to actuate. This will be a lot lest costly than replacing the 1985 V65 Sabre 1100 ignition switch.
