Honda Civic 2000 EX -- erratic operation from intermittent +12v

Sent to Car Experts August 10, 2006 2:45 p.m.

My girl frined owns a 2000 Honda Civic EX whose dome light operation has become intermittent. I've diagnosed this enough to see that the cause is INTERMITTENT +12v GETTING TO THE CONNECTOR tTHAT PLUGS ONTO THE DOME LIGHT fixture in the roof.

It had other problems. I replaced the bulb, disassembled/cleaned/reassembled the dome ligth switch and then it worked fine -- once in a while. But, much of the time, it refuses to light in any position. When it's refusing to light, a voltmeter shows that there's no +12v available on the dome light plug pin that seemingly supplies +12v.

What would cause this? Intermittent fuse (but most of the other interior lights work fine)? Intermittent connection at the radio (where I presume there are "electrical drive electronics" that control the power to the dome light, the "fading out" after door has been closed when switch is in the "door position")?

And, if I need to take the radio out to inspect these wires/plugs, how do I get the radio out?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
