Hi i am have a friend that is trying to sell a 86 ...

Hi i am have a friend that is trying to sell a 86 honda accord she says it needs a altenator. She put a new battery and starter on the car. I went to look at it and the motor will turn over but it won't start the lights work jus find and everything it just won't start. If it was the altenator it would have started won't it. It would have just have killed the battery.
