Question

1990 F350 Diesel

Sent to Car Experts July 28, 2006 8:42 a.m.

I replaced the Fuel shut-off solenoid on my 1990 Ford 7.3L diesel fuel injector pump because the coil was open on the old one. The fuel shut-off solenoid operates now but it still won't pump fuel through the injector lines. I even removed the glow plugs so the engine would turn over faster. I must have put the top on wrong. Has anybody got a picture or explanation? I'm only gonna pay for a picture or good explanation of how to install the top back on the injector pump. Thanks

Optional Information:
1990 Ford F350 7.3L Internatio

Already Tried:
Tried WD40 - won't even fire, only fires on starting fluid. Removed glow plugs to crank faster, still no fuel to injectors.

Before removing any fuel lines, clean the exterior with clean fuel oil, or solvent to prevent entry of dirt into the fuel system when the fuel lines are removed. If available, blow dry with compressed air.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cables from both batteries.

  2. Remove the air cleaner and cap intake manifold opening with clean rags.

  3. Disconnect the accelerator cable and speed control cable, if so equipped, from the injection pump.

  4. Remove the accelerator cable bracket from the intake manifold and position out of the way with cable(s) attached.

    1. Disconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter to injection pump and cap all fittings.

    2. Disconnect and cap the nozzle fuel lines at nozzles.

    3. Remove the fuel line clamps from the fuel lines to be removed.

    4. Remove and cap the injection pump inlet elbow.

    5. Remove and cap the inlet fitting adapter.

    6. Remove the injection nozzle lines, one at a time, from the injection pump using Tool T83T-9396-A, or equivalent.

Fuel lines must be removed following this sequence: 5-6-4-8-3-1-7-2. Install caps on the end of each fuel line and pump fitting as the line is disconnected and identify each fuel line accordingly.

    To install:

    1. Install fuel lines on injection pump, one at a time, and tighten to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).

Fuel lines must be installed in the following sequence: 2-7-1-3-8-4-6-5.

    1. Clean the old sealant from the injection pump elbow, using clean solvent, and dry thoroughly.

    2. Apply a light coating of pipe sealant on the elbow threads.

Lurch,
Thank you very much, you really made a valiant effort. But I really need a picture or explanation of installing the top cover onto the injector pump.
Thanks again,
Michael Fox

P.S. I gotta go back to work now so I won't be able to check back until after 5.
