I have a 1985 Jetta manual 5-speed that has a stalling problem. It will sit in neutral without a foot on the clutch and idle like a dream, but if the clutch pedal is depressed for a stop light or corner, the rpms drop to the point where the car immediately stalls. What's up? Any suggestions? Also, the O2 sensor light has been on since I bought the car... I was told it's not really important. Was that true? I've had the car for about 9 months.

Just diagnostic...checking that it didn't stall in neutral, for example.
