I have a 98 mercedes C280 and the dash has a light on for "BAS- ASR". I am wondering what this is?

The BAS / ASR ( Brake Assist System )light Is usually caused by the brake light switch fault. Replace the switch an it should be ok. But you should have the Dealer or Shop checkthe system to see that there are no other faults.

Another cause is:
If the electrical voltage drops below 10 volts, the malfunction indicator lamp will light up and the Brake Assist System (BAS) will be de-activated.
