Engine smoke ford 302 marine 1990

Sent to Car Experts July 23 02:17 AM

have a 1990 Ford 302 marine engine in a boat that sat for three years unused. Previous owner had leakdown test run just before not using the boat and the results were good. Boat now smokes at startup, grey color and a little less after running awhile.

Can it be a valve guide seal since the leak down was good prior to letting the boat sit for 3 years? Or is it more likely valve guides, it is using some oil?

If it's leaking down enough thru the seals then you should be able to crank it over after sitting with the plugs out and get some oil vapor/spray. Fords never really did go thru valve guides and after sitting the seals are probably hard as a rock. You cna change those from the top of the engine without taking the heads off.

Reply to Sparkybuoy's Post: how about marvel oil or something like that that might renew the seals?
