91 accord electrical problem

Sent to Car Experts July 20 09:48 PM

91 honda accord with electrical problems. radio cuts in and out, except sometimes if car's interior is hot. radio will sometimes play if steering column levers are touched or jiggled or tapped. radio ALWAYS works when lights are turned on. ashtray light may or may not work with no explanation. recently, the battery light on the dash may or may not come on or stay on. it is on a lot lately, but will go off after a while. heard some small popping noises when this first occurred with the battery light. then the battery light went away, as did the small pops. driver's electric window went out this winter. thought it was the motor of that unit, but am starting to think otherwise. you must know this... while fleeing hurricane k last fall, i had a 300 mile trip. about half way, one by one, the indicators on the dash ( gas gauge, temp gauge, speedom, etc) went out individually. a major auto repair center "fixed" the problems at that time. since then all of the katrina curses have raised their ugly heads, one by one. battery is ok, altern belts tight, and i don't know what to do. grounding problem? alternator going out? please help. i love this site! thanks, donny

Have you had the charging system tested it sounds as if the alternator is going out. You can have it tested at autozone for free. just ask for the charging system test and they will help you out. The system need to be charging between 13.5 volts and 14.6 volts . Please let me know the outcome

Donny,

All you do is take your vehicle to Autozone and tell them that you need to check your charging system. They have a machine that they will bring to your vehicle to test the charging system. They will perform this for you free of charge. What could be better! ;)
