1994 chevy s10 blazer 4.3 vortec, egr problems, what would happen if i put a plate over the existing hole where thye egr valve goes ,could this be a tempory fix for an egr problem ,don't wanna blow $150 plus on a new one if that isint the problem would the truck still run right not worried about passing inspection at this time just need to get the truck running smoother at this point,i keep cleaning the egr but not having any success i think the egr is spent so i wanna block it off, when i pulled the egr off and ran it it seemed to run better, and i don't wanna pull the spider set up off to costly, also i used top engine cleaner to try and solve and carbon build up in there.

Hi

You can temporarily blank the EGR port whilst you make you mind up whats what and the Chevy will run ok.

If cleaning the EGR out doesn't solve your problem but the Chevy runs better without it then maybe the EGR control solenoid is at fault. Follow the vacuum pipe from the EGR valve and it should be connected to a little solenoid with an electrical connector and another vacuum pipe on it.

If you have had an EGR code thrown up then maybe the solenoid is the problem.

Hope you get it solved soon

Best wishes

Ah! the EGR has an integral controller then!

In my opinion, if the Chevy runs better without the EGR then I would say the EGR is at fault.

Get a known good second hand one so you're not throwing good money at it and see if it solves your problem.

I've replaced a lot of EGR's in my time and in my experience if improvment is felt witht the valve disconnected then the valve has been at fault and replacing it has solved the problem.

I have in the past gone to scrap yards and asked if I could try a part on vehicles before buying in order to find out if it is the right part. Maybe you could try that?

Bets of luck
