Once you remove the air filter you will be able to view the throttle body. If you look into the throttle body you will see the injector. There is a good chance that the injector is either clogged or defective. The "key" to this issue is that it fires with the aid of starting fluid therefore the injector may not be working. Check with the AutoZone people for advanced diagnostics for this part.

Reply to Dan's Post: I can't seem to understand that the air filter is in front. This is a sequential system from muy limited understanding. So there are six injecters or nodes. I wouldn't think all would be defective

Reply to Dan's Post: this problem started 3 weeks ago   hard starting then finally starting. i put injection cleaner in tank i don't know if that helped but it was starting but only after a number of tries.

It quit altogether and I had it towed to a garage to check out but it started right up the next day.they said they couldn't check something that was not broke.
it was ok for a week then it quit this time.Same pattern. That is when I had the things checked as I wrote to you about. I had some one come to check it out and the battery was low so we jumped it and it started right up. I drove it all day..Next day where i am at now

Okay, now I have a better understanding of what's going on. We have an intermittent problem. You will have to contact a mechanic in your area that has a "Snap-On" scanner. This particular scanner allows the user to run onboard test while driving the vehicle. The scanner will detect a specific problem and store the information. I wouldn't want to take a guess that it could be this or that. We really need to zero in on the problem. I believe that there is a internal connection failing within the electrical system that has an effect on the fuel supply. I would hope that the "Snap-On" scanner can isolate and detect the issue.
