Reply to Steve7654's Post: 1996 LHS "growls" when at 1700 to 1900 RPM with ac or heater on. Radiator was removed and replaced before this started. When you place your hand on the "compressor??" the virbration stops. Where are the screws/bolts to tighten the compressor. I have been waiting for 3 days for an answer to this question. The compressor is located just behind the radiator on the passenger side of the car almost parallel to the air filter container.

hello!

You probably received no answer because there was no question posted; if you look at what was posted all it says is "1996 LHS".

In regards to the compressor:

It would be extremely unusual for a compressor to make any kind of noise that could be affected by placing your hand on it... the only possible thing that comes to mind is that teh bolts holding the compressor to the engine may be loose for some reason. Try tightening them to see if it has any effect (there are no pictures to show you where these 4 bolts are, but it is obvious if you look at the compressor; they are easily visible wen looking down at the compressor body).

The only adjustment possible is belt tension. I will post the procedure for you below, but this is not likely to be the cause of any kind of noise such as you describe.

________________________

  1. Loosen tensioner pulley locking nut.
  2. Adjust tension to specification with adjusting bolt, 150 lbs. for a new belt and 120 lbs. for used belt. [01]
  3. Torque locking nut to 40 ft. lbs.
