Question

Auto repair

Sent to Car Experts July 08, 2006 6:58 p.m.

1990 Nissan Pickup, KA24E engine, 2.4 Liter, D21 Chassis.

Running a self diagnostic test on PCU returns an error code of 41 which points to the Air Temperature Sensor.

How important is this sensor for fuel economy and engine performance? Where is it located? How difficult is it to change for a backyard mechanic?

Thanks in advance,

Gary

The air temperature sensor is extremely important for fuel economy. Just about anybody that can handle tools can do this. It will be either plugged into the air filter housing or into the intake duct between the air filter and motor. It looks like thisImages available only to Customers.

Okay. I it is most likely to be in the air filter housing.

Bobby, I found the part. It was on the underside of air filter housing. someone had cut the wires. The only part left intact was the part screwed to the housing, Now, when I get the new part, all I have to do is fgure out were to connect (plug it in at).

Thank you! Isn't the Internet wonderfull.

It appears as though the wires and the plug have been cut off flush with the bottom of the sensor. I will need to determine were to plug the new one it in at.

There should be a wiring harness near there. You may have to cut into it to find the wires. You may also need a new connector if there is not enough there to splice into. If you need more help let me know.

From the Sensor picture, if you look at the right side of the picture, that is the sensor that is still attached to my air cleaner assembly. The pigtail and plug are gone. In the engine compartment, near the carb, is an open receptacle that looks like the right one, Oddly enough, it is capped with a removable cover. It may or may not be the correct line wire. I guess all I can do is order the sensor and hope I can figure out were it plugs in at.

Thanks for the help,

Gary

It may be it. Just remember that the wires should reach pretty freely.
