1991 4 Runner AC Blown fuse

Sent to Car Experts July 07 07:50 PM

I have a 1991 Toyota 4 Runner 6cyc. 5 speed. My AC will work for 2 to 3 minutes and then my 15amp fuse, behind the glove box, will blow. I put another fuse in and it works great for again 3 or 4 minutes and blows again. It seems to happen when the RPM's are higher. If I idle the engine it will run fine for a lot longer without blowing.

Any thoughts

Dan

Most likely the problem is in the clutch on the A/C compressor. For starters disconnect the wire to the clutch and see if the fuse blows. Make sure the wire is not chaffed by the clutch, especially where it enters the field.

The correct way would be to put a amp meter in series where you disconnect the a/c clutch wire and measure amp draw, should be about 5 or 6 amps. if higher replace the clutch

I have no problem with your answer so I will accept your advice. Question, If I try your sugestion and It doesn't work, do I have to pay another $30 to ask another question?
This is the first time I have used this. The info you gave me is a steel for $30. That's only basically $1 per year of your service. Thanks again for your help.
