Do a compression test on each cylinder , you may have a bent or burnt valve!! And also recheck your timing if compression is good.

Then most likely your timing is off. Check and adjust your base timing to (7 deg. +/- 2 deg BTDC)
Since you problem is happening upon acceleration/deceleration, check your timing advance in your diustributor. Check the vacuum hose for correct operation .

Reply to Anastasio's Post: I have set the timing going by the label which is using the marks which are dislayed under the hood, are you saying even by going by the book that the timing might still be off ahd also I have replaced the vacuum advance unit could i have replaced the vacuun advance unit wrong and as i have said i only get the poping noise on decceleration and it only stops when I put in neutral, and if the timimg is wrong how would I go about correcting it without using the label, sory to keep bugging you, also after the vacuum hose leaves the vacumm advance unit where does it connect to the carb or somwhere else.and can I rule out that a manifod lesk is causing the problem.Thank you.DEan Byrd

If you have an intake leak that surely can be the cause of your problem!! Also check out you Idle air motor, or sensor and make sure its working properly, not sticking and that valve moves in the bore.. Go by the timing info I gave you,, it's straight from the manufacturer.
