90 ford escort, turns over wont start, plenty of gas, ...

90 ford escort, turns over wont start, plenty of gas, I changed plugs, wires, rotor and dis. cap. when removing cap there was oil build up in the cap. Thats suppost to be "clean"? pulled main wire off dis cap and put spark plug in, grounded plug and theres no spark from the coil. Is there any hope for this car?
