P1870 Transmission Component Slipping. There are a few bulletins out about this problem related to the valve body, however if the vehicle has the original trans and no major work, it will most likely have to have a transmission overhaul.

The transmission computer reads the speed of the front(input) transmission components and then compares them to the rear(output) components. If there is a difference in the speeds larger than a predetermined amount this code is set. It is basically a "your transmission is slipping code".
