04CBR600RR Not idling
Sent to Car Experts June 13 01:11 AM

I have a 2004 Honda CBR600RR with 4K miles. It was running great until I washed it last week. I started the bike after it dried for about a minute. It ran great.

I went to ride it to work 2 days later, and it would not start. The engine turned over, but it would not fire. It seemed like it was trying to fire, but it would not catch. After trying several times, the battery died. I put it on the trickle charger, and I tried it again several times with the same result.

With advice from the local dealer, I removed the airbox lid, and I sprayed carb cleaner down the bores. It did not seem to fire at all. The plugs look okay; each one of them is giving off good spark.

I tried using starter fluid. With the throttle held wide open, I was finally able to get it to start. It seems to run good at high revs, but it will not idle when it gets hot. In my attempts to get it running, I made the mistake of adjusting the idle screw. It seems like it has not affect on the idle at all.

It has been suggested it is the cooling sensor. I just got a service manual. It does not mention a cooling sensor, or anything in the troubleshooting section about idling problems.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dave
