I just bought a 78 750 hondamatic . It was in storage for 10 years. When the side stand is down and I start it , it makes a clanking sound in neutral but goes away when I put the stand up and put it in gear. When on the center stand and the rear tire is free to move it makes the same noise in gear but goes away when I apply the rear brake. Is the torque converter worn out? I read a similar question in your website and the person posing the question said that he was considering replacing the torque converter. Do you know if this person ever solved their similar problem.
