It's Saturday now, and I have not received an answer to my question. I will re state it now.

I have a2001 Cadillac Deville. The door in the HVAC duct made clicking sounds when I turned my vehicle on, and the air no longer flowed out the air ducts on the dash board. I can hear the air in the dash being stopped like it wants to come out but can't. I suspect the door flap that directs the air for feet or face or both is stuck and need to be eithr lubed or repaired. I have removed the contol unit for the a/c from the front of the dash, but I can not get at the duct work that is behind the front vents. The vents are in a wood grain shround, and I do not want to break anything trying to access this area. Can I reach this cable or wire or arm that controls the air direction from underneath, or where? Please let me know asap as I would like to put this problem to bed without paying a ton of money to the Cadillac Dealer. Help

There are a few things that can cause your problem. A bad A/C control head. A small electric motor that moves the door. Wires that work this system. A door that is jammed by something that fell down Defrost vents. The programer is behind the glove box. Remove glove box and you should have a view of the A/C box. Hope this helps. Please accept my answer if your satisfied. Thanks 32dmadden

Reply to 32dmadden's Post: Thank you for your input, but after removing the glovebox, I find that I have no access to checking anything. My problem when I start the car is that I can hear clicking or ratcheting in the area directly behind the a/c control panel in the center of the dash. It appears that if I could remove the soft portion of the upper dashboard, and remove the wood grain panel that houses the four a/c vents, I could see where the air ducts are shuttered from and thus open the vents so that the air isn't being held inside the dash, possibly for the defrost duct. So as it stands, I still need to access the shutter for the a/c ducts in the area directly behind the a/c panel in the center back portion of the dash. The will require removing the wood grain. It appears there are plastic tabs that have a small 7mm screw holding them in. Because the top padding of the dash is in the way for access to these screws, I need to remove the top padded portion to access these screws. Help.

The clicking or ratcheting is probably the control motor trying to move the door. It is either stripped on the inside or something is inside holding it from moving. If it is the motor you might as well replace it since your there any way. I'm not sure taking the dash out is the right move. Give me a couple of hours to get to the shop and look it up. When everthing gives up the air flows out the defrost vents. This is the failsafe position. Thanks talk to you soon. 32dmadden
