There is no power to the air conditioner on ...

There is no power to the air conditioner on my 1997 lincoln continental. When you apply 12 volts directly to the compressor, it turns on and cools fine.
I was told it is the powertran control module. Another mech said it could just be a relay.
Please help.
Frank

There are 6 fuses involved in the A/C system operation and the Pcm power relay. Any of these could be the problem. The PCM controls the ground to the A/C clutch relay. There is alot that could be involved in causing it not to engage correctly. I have attached 2 wiring diagrams for you maybe these will help diag the possible problem

They are both zip files which you will have to unzip and open with the adobe reader. I just tried them and they both work for me from the links. Try again, hopefully you can get them to work.

Reply to Tim Basham's Post: Hello,
This is a recap of my no AC problem.
Last year my AC was intermittent. The first mechanis said it need a recharge (no leaks)\Two weeks later the same problem. Another mechanic sais it was overcharhed, it died again after 2 weeks.
This year it's dead. Pep Boys checked fuses and relays, all OK, then applied power directlt to the compressor, it cooled, and told me I need a PCM.
Aother ford mech said it isn"t true< ans wants $() to check it out (sorry can"t do spell check)

yes and actually both could be right. There are many different things that coukld cause the electrical part of the system not to operate. This is one thats hard to do a online diag of it. It take a test light and wiring diagram and checking circuits to see where the actual loose of voltage is occuring. I would be glad to send you the diagrams in email if you would like. It might help you understand some of the system or be helpful to your mechanic on diag. the problem
