Jaguar transmission control problem
Sent to Car Experts June 02 12:57 PM

1990 Jaguar XJ6-Transmission light comes on and car goes into "limp home" mode, remains in 3rd gear. Problem has been intermittent since car purchased 6+ years ago w/128,00mi. Now approx.200,000.   Orig. trans. replaced in Jan. w/rebuilt for other problem(no reverse) and this problem did not recur for a few days, but then did, and is becoming almost constant. Speed senser inside trans. replaced 2x, problem persists. Problem seems less severein cold weather, may not occur for several days. Formerly could often be reset by turning off ignition while travelling and coasting briefly before restarting, but that no longer seems to work.. If light comes on while engine running, usually feel jolt or clunk from rear end? at that time. Any ideas?

I don't know if this will be your problem but there is a tsb for light on limp in mode due to moisture intrusion
