I found a crack in the long h ousing coming off the main bell housing on the front diff. of my 2004 tahoe. Is is a big deal to replace?

 

Optional Information:
2004 Chevrolet tahoe 5.3 v8

Already Tried:
nothing. i just saw the crack caused by falling off jack. damage is not to main housing, but to the long thin housing coming off of it and fluid is leaking out.

It's a fair amount of work.The caliper,rotor and cv axle shaft need to come out to do it and the ball joint needs to be disconnected.Then you pretty much unbolt it from the differential and the mounting bracket.I would try grinding or sanding the area clean.Then take some brake clean and get any oil residue off of it and try some JB weld.There are directions for using it on the package.They have a fast drying version.I used it on a cracked lawn mower engine block before and it worked for me.I'll be honest though it doesn't always work but it is worth a try.
