Automotive Problem

I just recently purchased a 1998 acura integra type r with numerous aftermarket parts to include; competch intake, headers, exhaust and a jackson racing supercharger. I was experiencing a vibration and wavering noise at 4000 rpm. The vibration was significant enough to feel it through the gas pedal and the wavering was moderate. Once the engine reached over approximately 5000 rpm the vibration was not noticeable. There was also a slight fluctuation in power during these rpm ranges, very slight. The guy that I bought the vehicle from recommended that I run the vehicle hard for a couple of days because he suspected that it had something to do with the "gas regulator". So I did with no positive out come. Now the check engine light is on. What do you suspect caused this? Are the 2 related? I haven't driven it since the light has come on but I would say other than the 4000 to 5000 rpm problems the vehicle runs excellent.

Optional Information:
1998 Acura integra type r b18c5 1.8 ltr

Already Tried:
nothing other than running it hard.

the check engine light is indicating that a trouble code has been stored in the memory, you will need to have code retreived at an auto shop or an Autozone parts store ,this will help determine the cause of problem.you can also purchase a tool to do it yourself.the problem may be due to the mods on engine or the effect they are having on control system

Reply to marc C's Post: What about the vibration/noise at the 4000-5000 rpm range?

it may be related to the light ,it may be due to a missfire plug or coil ,injector problem .the light is on because the computer is seeing that something is not within its expected parameters
