how do i replace my waterpump on my 1996 firebird formula

my firebird keeps over heating...i replaced the thermostat and after I ran the car for a while to see if it was ok.... the temp went way up.... and the car started to make a weird sqeeking sound.... i asked someone at auto zone they said it sounds like the water pump.. i bought the water pump and attemted to replace it... as of right now i cannot get the old water pump off...do you have any suggestions as to why it will not come off???
