Hello! Welcome to Just Answer!

Not sure which engine you have. The 3.1 has different instructions, which I have also included.

If this helps, please click "ACCEPT"

EXCEPT 3.1L ENGINE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Insert a 1/2inch (13mm) drive breaker bar into the adjuster arm on the tensioner pulley. Later models require an 18mm box end wrench.

Make sure the drive end of the breaker bar is long enough to fully seat in the tensioner pulley and that both the breaker bar and box wrench are long enough to provide the proper leverage.

  1. Rotate the tensioner to the left (counterclockwise) and remove the belt.

  2. Slowly rotate the tensioner to the right (clockwise) to release the tension.

Serpentine belt removal—3.3L engine

To install:

  1. Route the belt over the pulleys following the diagram found in the engine compartment.

  2. Rotate the tensioner to the left (counterclockwise) and install the belt over the remaining pulley.

  3. Inspect the belt positioning over each pulley to ensure the belt is seated properly in all the grooves.

3.1L ENGINE

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

  2. Using a drive belt tension wrench, rotate the tensioner.

Rotate the belt tension clockwise

  1. Remove the drive belt from the alternator pulley.

  2. Support the engine at the oil pan. Follow the information on supporting the engine using a block of wood and jacking devise, this is very important.

Only raise and support the engine in the following manner

  1. Remove the engine mount assembly from the bracket support.

  2. Unbolt and remove the auxiliary bracket.

  3. Lower the engine and extract the drive belt.

To install:

  1. Rotate the belt tensioner.

  2. Place the drive belt around the pulleys and attach the auxiliary bracket. Tighten the bracket fasteners to 37 ft. lbs. (50 Nm).

  3. Install the engine mount to the support bracket bolts. Tighten the bolts to 96 ft. lbs. (130 Nm).

  4. Remove the floor jack and block of wood.

  5. Connect the negative battery cable.

  6. Start the engine and check fore any out of the ordinary noises.

Yes, the specifications call for an exact amount of tension on the bolts. This is from the manufacturer, and nobody knows the car better than the people who make it. For a longer lasting repair, it is recommended to use the torque wrench. It is not necessarily required though ,if you don't have a torque wrench, just tighten it as tight as you can(not so tight it snaps the bolt though), and I would use a drop of loctite on the bolt so it does'nt cause any problems in the immediate future (rattling out).

You should be in good shape though. Images available only to Customers.
