While starting our '68 Bronco there was a flash ...

While starting our '68 Bronco there was a flash from the back of the alternator, and now there's no electrical reaching the spark plugs. Is the alternator toast? Shouldn't the engine run off of the new fully charged battery for a short period of time, something else must have gotten taken out during the flash. Any ideas?

Trying to start vehicle after 2 years of storage with a brand new battery./p>
