is there any practical advantage to putting a synthetic oil in an engine w/ 83,000 mi on it?

the only real advantage that synthetic lubricants have over 'conventional' types is the oil change intervals. if your engine has any blowby, the oil will get contaminated with fuel, therefore the synthetic oil will not be a wise choice because once contaminated, the oil needs to be changed. if your engine is in good working order though, and doesnt use oil, then the synthetic will be better choice for your engine. if you weigh the cost of synthetic and conventional oils, you will see that you still are paying the same price(with respect to change intervals also) i would only use synthetic oil on an engine that is in great working order(and uses no oil). if i was helpful, please click "ACCEPT"
