I am late for work and I have a 84 Buick Regal. I was driving it going about 40 mph. and all of a sudden my VOLTS light comes on. From there on there was a knocking sound coming from my hood that just got louder when I sped up and quieter when I slowed down. Please help. Clueless in Ohio. Thanks Travis.

The volts light means you alternator stopped charging for some reason. The knocking could indicate a problem with the belt or one of the components it drives like the water pump or something like that. You need to inspect under the hood and see if you can spot annything. Grab eash pully annd see if any have any rocking movement.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: so I know nothing about cars. Where do I need to take my car and about how much will it all cost and what do I need to tell the technicians?
