When trying to start my 1996 grand am, it turned over but would not start. I tried several times and when I took the key out, and the car kept trying to start. I heard other sounds also. I could not unhook the battery so this went on for at least five minutes. Finally, I put the key in the ignition and turned it and it stopped. It also smelled like something was burned. I noticed the next day that my battery red cable was a little melted. Now the car does not make a sound even with a new battery. The lights do not even come on. Please help.
