1990 camaro rs with a 305 and manual tranny that just decided to not start.I put a scanner to it and got a code 53(system overvoltage).               i had the battery and alternator bench tested and they are fine.where do i go from here?

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: no because the car won't even crank.the starter is ok because i jumped it and it spun over.there is power to the headlights and all other accessories but nothing when i turn the key

There are two possibilities here.The clutch switch is bad or the security system isnt' reading the key.My guess would be the security system not reading the key.You should try another key before proceeding.If you want to fix it right and maintain the security i can tell you how.If you want to bypass the key I can tell you how.How do you wish to proceed?

They key would need to come from the dealer.If you don't have a spare key I would buy a new key and lock cylinder at the same time and replace the lock cylinder also.Usually the two small white wires break causing this problem.You will need to take your key so the can get the security code from the tool they have at the dealer.You could locate the two small white wires at the bottom of the column and solder a resistor between them but that will bypass the security system.You would need to check the ohms of the pellet in the key to get the proper resistor.Make sure the purple wire at the starter doesn't have power when the key is in the start position before proceeding because if it does the starter is bad.
