Question

Radiator Thermostat / Cab heating regulator not working

Sent to Car Experts April 15, 2006 12:13 a.m.

Chrysler Concorde 2000 w/ 97,888 miles always maintained never spent any additional $ for repair work.: A Internal temp is not regulating, always blowing cold air, even when the engine thermostat is registering 75%. (almost in the red) The cab is cold and does not warm up until the temp gauge reaches 3/4 to the red zone. Today it almost hit the red zone, steaming I turned the engine off. Does this mean the thermastat has closed down and is not allowing fluid into the engine? If so is this something that an instruction savy female can fix? Or should I just tow it to the mechanic?
Thank you, Lillian Wingate

ACCEPTED Check Mark

First off, check the level of your coolant in the radiator cold. you can check either by looking at the plastic overflow reservoir or by removing the radiator cap. Remember, if you remove the radiator cap, do it only when the engine is cold. If the level is OK then I would replace your radiator thermostat and flush out your coolant system. Your system is probably in need of a good cleaning and new anti-freeze. Your thermostat could be stuck closed thus not letting in the coolant and overheating your engine and not allowing the coolant into your heater core and thus no heat. Thermostats are inexpensive, about $8.00. I would suggest that you take it to someone in order to do this including the system flushing. the total job including the thermostat replacement should not be more than $60.00. If his helps please select accept. Good luck Images available only to Customers.
