1991 Pontiac Sunbird 3.1L. Drive line remains directly engaged after driving a while. All gear selections function properly. After setting a few it will operate properly for a while. I put it in 2nd so it wouldn't go into OD to get home.

the first thing you should do is bring it into a reputable repair shop & have the lock up solonoid replaced & service the trans with new filter & fluid.
as log as you have no slippage & the tranny fluid isnt burnt smelling or brown this should resolve your problem.
