I have a 99 civic si. I just replaced the intake filter (bout two weeks ago). Now since last week, after a car wash, the engine would die if I dont hit the gas and bring it to a high rpm. From now on, it happens everytime it gets chilly outside. So I have to start the car at a high RPM(6500) and drive it that way: when I shift gear and the rpm drops, it would die while I'm driving, so I would just down shift and let go of the clutch, kinda like a push-starting. I tried replacing the distributor and sparkplugs because it got messed up too and wouldnt spark in the process. I wonder if my new distributor will get messed up too. But anyways, what seems to be the deal?

Hi, thanks for the question. You didn't say what kind of filter it is but I would check it out again. Make sure that the engine can get airflow through it. Check the intake tube into the engine for obstructions. Also I would pull off the dist. cap and inspect for water. If any is found spray a little WD-40 into the cap and reinstall it.

BTW, I owned a 00 SI for about three years so I'm very familiar to the vehicle you're having a problem with.

Reply to Kyle Northrop's Post: It's a short ram intake. I had a AEM filter and I replaced it by some bogus brand filter(Intimidator) cuz it was dirty. I heard when the distributor has water in it , it doesnt even spark or something like tat. But mine sparked, it just wont stay on unless i floor the pedal and burn a lot of gaz. Oh, btw, it makes a lot of smoke when i do floor the gaz (on neutral), I dunno if tats normal. And it only happens when it's cold outside. Right now its hot and my car runs fine. But yea, I'm gonna try 2 do wat u said and see

Ok is there any reason you couldn't go back to the old factory setup? Why not change back and see if the problem goes away. If it goes away then you can get a better filter/intake and ebay the old stuff or something. I had a cold air AEM and never had problems at all. Of course that was one of the best at the time and I payed alot for it. Sometimes you get what you pay for. At this point changing back is what I would do.

I would rather you pay now and we can continue for free after if it doesn't work. I'm not going anywhere. I'm really interested in your problem anyway, I haven't seen an Si do what you are saying yet. They generally are good even when modified.
